To deal with the complex water quality in pure wastewater treatment, it is usually necessary to start from water quality analysis, optimize treatment processes, and strengthen operational management. The following are specific measures:

Detailed water quality analysis

Comprehensive testing: Conduct comprehensive testing on various indicators of wastewater, including but not limited to pH, COD, BOD, suspended solids (SS), ammonia nitrogen, total phosphorus, heavy metal content, toxic and harmful substances, etc. Accurately grasp the complexity of water quality and the types and concentrations of pollutants through detailed detection data.

Dynamic monitoring: Water quality may fluctuate over time, so it is necessary to establish a dynamic monitoring mechanism to regularly or in real-time monitor changes in water quality. Timely detection of abnormal fluctuations in water quality, providing a basis for subsequent adjustments in treatment processes.

Optimize processing technology

Combination process: For complex water quality, a single treatment process is often difficult to achieve the desired treatment effect, and a combination process is needed. For example, for wastewater containing heavy metals and organic matter, chemical precipitation can be used to remove heavy metals first, and then organic matter can be degraded through biological treatment. The common combination process includes "pretreatment biochemical treatment deep treatment". Pre treatment can remove large suspended particles, adjust water quality and quantity, etc. Biochemical treatment mainly removes organic matter and ammonia nitrogen, while deep treatment is used to further remove difficult to degrade organic matter, heavy metals, etc., to meet higher emission standards.

Strengthening pretreatment: For wastewater with complex water quality, strengthening the pretreatment process is crucial. By using pre-treatment methods such as coagulation sedimentation, filtration, and adsorption, suspended solids, oils, and some heavy metals in wastewater can be effectively removed, reducing the load on subsequent treatment processes. For example, using activated carbon adsorption can remove odors and some organic matter from wastewater; Adding coagulants can cause small suspended particles to agglomerate into larger particles, facilitating precipitation and separation.

Select appropriate biological treatment technology: Based on the biodegradability of organic matter in wastewater, choose the appropriate biological treatment technology. For wastewater with good biodegradability, traditional methods such as activated sludge treatment and biofilm treatment can achieve good treatment results; For wastewater that is difficult to biodegrade, a combination of anaerobic biological treatment, advanced oxidation technology, and biological treatment can be used. For example, anaerobic biological treatment can convert organic matter into methane and carbon dioxide under anaerobic conditions, making it suitable for the treatment of high concentration organic wastewater; Advanced oxidation technologies such as ozone oxidation and Fenton oxidation can convert recalcitrant organic matter into easily biodegradable substances, improving the biodegradability of wastewater.

Deep treatment: After biochemical treatment, although most of the organic matter and pollutants such as ammonia nitrogen have been removed, the wastewater may still contain some difficult to degrade organic matter, heavy metal ions, etc., which require deep treatment. Deep processing technologies include membrane separation technology, ion exchange technology, adsorption technology, etc. For example, reverse osmosis membranes can effectively remove salt and small molecule organic matter from wastewater; Ion exchange resin can remove heavy metal ions.

Strengthen operational management

Optimize process parameters: Adjust the parameters of the treatment process in a timely manner based on changes in water quality and treatment effectiveness. For example, in the biological treatment process, parameters such as aeration time, sludge return ratio, and hydraulic retention time are reasonably controlled based on the concentration of organic matter and ammonia nitrogen in the influent to ensure microbial activity and treatment effectiveness.

Sludge management: In the process of treating wastewater with complex water quality, the properties and yield of sludge may be affected. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen sludge management, regularly monitor indicators such as sludge concentration, settling performance, and microbial population, and reasonably control the discharge and disposal methods of sludge. At the same time, it is necessary to prevent abnormal situations such as sludge expansion. Once problems arise, corresponding measures should be taken in a timely manner to solve them.

Equipment maintenance: Ensuring the normal operation of processing equipment is key to dealing with complex water quality. Regularly maintain and upkeep the equipment, replace worn parts in a timely manner, and prevent equipment failures from affecting the effectiveness of the treatment. At the same time, it is necessary to establish equipment operation files to record the operation status, maintenance and upkeep of the equipment, providing a basis for equipment management and troubleshooting.

Emergency response measures

Accident pool setting: Set up an accident pool to store excess wastewater or wastewater discharged in case of emergencies. The volume of the accident pool should be designed reasonably according to the scale of wastewater treatment and the possible accident discharge, to ensure that it can accommodate a certain amount of wastewater discharge for a certain period of time and avoid excessive wastewater being directly discharged into the environment.

Emergency response plan: Develop a detailed emergency response plan, specifying the measures to be taken in case of sudden deterioration of water quality, equipment failure, and other emergencies. The contingency plan should include emergency response procedures, division of responsibilities, material reserves, etc., to ensure that emergency situations can be handled quickly and effectively, reducing the impact on the environment.

In addition, scientific research cooperation can be carried out to develop new treatment technologies and processes, or to draw on the successful experience of other similar projects, continuously optimize treatment plans, and improve the treatment efficiency of complex water quality.
